TWO GRAND OLDE DAMES!

These two homes featured have been extensively renovated and restored. No expenses were spared during the process and the price tags now reflect. Have a look and hope you enjoy!

65 MURRAY ST W, HAMILTON, ON

This Italianate-Georgian style home, circa 1836, is a (lime) stone’s throw from beautiful #HamOnt Bay Front Park and the NEW West Harbour GO Station.

Research, reported in The Hamilton Spectator, revealed the house was built by James Matthew Whyte, who also built the villa called Barton Lodge (circa 1836 destroyed by fire 1930).

65 Murray Street West served as James’ "town home" given the close proximity to the Gore Bank where he served as its First President.

The current owners purchased in 2011 for $270,000 extensively renovated and loving restored (ultimately they took the house down to its original shell, and built a new house within the stone walls). Structural beams were brought in, 17 windows replaced, and wiring, plumbing, heating and cooling were updated.

They also exposed the original 20-inch-thick Eramosa limestone hidden under stucco for a jaw dropping investment of $33,000. Kudos to them for spending the money to restore when most would have run for the hills! In fact, one of my favourite parts of this home are the limestone exterior walls, serving as a stunning backdrop to the magnificent 77ft wraparound porch.

Fresh Speculation:
Not verified but some say that this limestone landmark used to be a funeral home.
